Boston SoWA Open Market 460 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MANMBCStoryTime
May 8th (Goya Honoring Day), 10 AM - 4 PM

Come celebrate the nutritional, culinary, and creative possibilities of Bitter Melon with the National Bitter Melon Council on Sunday, May 8th at the South End Open Market in the South End Neighborhood of Boston. Goya Honoring Day, originating in Okinawa, Japan, is a special day to recognize Bitter Melon as a featured product of that tropical island ("Goya" is the term for Bitter Melon in Okinawa dialect.) In Japan, Goya Day is celebrated on May 8th because the Japanese pronunciation of the date "May" and "8" sounds the same as "Go-Ya". The NBMC has been producing US-based Goya Day celebrations since 2007 and are excited to bring another one to Boston this year!

Our focus for this year's Goya Honoring Day is Snacks and Stories and our newly published book, Better Living through Bitter Melon: A Manual. We will have a booth at the SoWa Open Market from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM with events occurring at the booth and around the market all day.

Come join us and share in the fun, the celebration, and the bitterness that is Bitter Melon!
