"mapping sites' is a collaborative community involvement project, including a two-week travel performance by artists Aimée Xenou and Nora Rabins and a daily-changing exhibit at the Oresman Gallery, Smith College. The project aims to challenge core notions about the spaces of art production, the sites in which art is traditionally exhibited, the actors who are involved in the production of an art object, and the powers that are at play during conceptualization, production and display.
As one part of the multi-layered project, visual artists Aimée Xenou and Nora Rabins will travel from private home to private home where they will be hosted for one night and co-produce art with community members. The art will remain at the sites in which it is produced, and Aimée and Nora will be informed each day about where to travel next. The exhibit at at Smith College will echo the travel performance and parts can be activated by gallery visitors.
