The 4th Annual Urban Pond Procession
Saturday May 21st (raindate May 22nd )
10a.m. – 1 p.m.
Starts at the Boat House off Reservoir Avenue, ends at the Temple to Music at Roger Williams Park.
Artists in Context is collaborating with artist Holly Ewald to support this year’s Urban Pond Procession. This year’s event will feature performances, public appearances by city and museum officials, an art installation, and free food! A shuttle bus leaves at 9:30 am from the Temple of Music, where you can park and where the procession ends.
Holly Ewald started the Mashapaug Pond Procession as a culminating public event in June 2008 after a several-month residency in local schools and community centers educating young people about the pond and creating silkscreen posters and fish costumes. The posters were then the inspiration for 4 new more pictoral signs with text translated in 3 languages warning pond visitors of the health hazards of the pond site. Eight new signs fabricated by the Department of Transportation are permanently in place around the pond.
The Urban Pond Procession will be presented as a case study at Artists in Context fall conference, Connected and Consequential.
